Welcome to August’s blog tour hosted by the amazing Ti, of Simply By Ti. So this month’s topic is a few of my favorite things. I really love some of my sewing tools and of course, my machines come in at the top of the list. By I decided to show you guys my favorite sewing accessories (at work): my remote and tripod! Welcome to my post and here are a few of my favorite (sewing) things!
First off…. disclaimers…. I may use an affiliate link here and there… I only received a little bit of income from these links and they have no effect on the cost of the item. Nor does it affect my opinions on the subject at hand. Also my links are to Amazon mostly… you can buy these products in a number of different places. I just prefer Amazon.
So my camera is a Nikon d3200. I have no real reason why I am still a beginner as far as my photography goes. But I wanted to get a DSLR so I could take better pictures of my sewing creations. But I realized quickly I wanted better pictures of my modeled creations. And while my children are wonderful helpers, they are horrible photographers. So I had to find a solution.
These are my solution. For less than $30, I was able to get modeled shots I can be proud of. I purchased a cheap tripod (This one is low cost but really sturdy) and an even cheaper remote. I have since bought a larger tripod but I still use this one from time to time. And there was a slight learning curve with using a remote so READ YOUR MANUAL! It will save you countless hours I did not save myself.

This is the EYMM Boxy Boyfriend Tee. I was so pleased with this pattern that I spent a lot of time trying to get some great shots with my remote. Allow yourself plenty of time and patience. Figuring out how to hold your hands to hide the remote… not making the focused “Did it take the picture?” face… and of course standing still while the picture actually happens.
These two were outtakes… I was too far to one side in the first one and although I considered myself clever in the second, hiding the remote against my face makes for an unnatural pose.
These are better. I was able to semi-naturally hide the remote in one of my hands and tried to keep my facial expression natural. These are the shorts length of the EYMM Get Moving Leggings pattern! I really love these shorts and they are so comfy so I took a ton of photos of these. But the light wasn’t great for my that day. So I am still experimenting with tripod angles and posing.
Another great use for my remote is the Mommy and Me shots that I love to take. We are in the New Horizons Pierside Skirts so check that pattern out too! But Bug and I like to take turns holding the remote to see who can hide it the best. I think she might honestly be better at it than I am!
So these are a few of my favorite things. And I suppose a few of my favorite patterns. 🙂 Please drop me a comment telling me about your favorite sewing items… and thank you for taking the time to check out my post! I really appreciate it!
Check out the rest of the stops on the tour! There are notions, items, patterns and really just a little bit of everything! And stop back in soon!!!
